Berkeley is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Berkeley follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

We just lost our 12 year old dog during gastrointestinal cancer surgery at PETS Referral Center. His cancer mass ruptured his intestinal wall and the only humane option was to put him down during the procedure. Though the loss of our beloved dog has been brutal, I had decided I wanted to write a review (which I hardly ever do) because the team’s care, compassion and empathy was so exceptional. Dr Dieckmann was incredible explaining the results of the ultrasound that identified the mass. She was patient and sincere presenting our options. After opting for surgery, Janice who checked our dog in during day of surgery was so sweet and caring. As was she when we said our goodbyes after he passed. Alana Ellis, the surgical lead, was similarly compassionate when we came in to say our goodbyes. As was Dr Rasmussen, the surgeon who tried to save him. They all took the time to express their sympathies as well as let us know how content he was before going under. The front staff was receptive and on it. Yes, we had to wait when we first brought him in. But I’ve never been to an ER, human or animal, where that wasn’t the case. Yes, the cost for these types of interventions is a lot. But an

My experience with eye doctor Dr. Mitzi Zarfoss was so upsetting that I feel other pet owners deserve to know what happened. From the beginning, I felt that my concerns were not taken seriously. What disturbed me the most was the feeling that Dr. Zarfoss mocked me as a pet parent after I stepped out of the examination room. Based on what I observed and experienced, I left with the impression that she was making a joke at my expense. No pet owner should ever be made to feel ridiculed when they are simply trying to get the best care for a beloved family member. The most heartbreaking part of my experience was the medication she prescribed for my pet. After following her instructions, my pet developed serious eye problems that I believe were caused by the prescribed medication. Watching my pet suffer was devastating, and I trusted that the treatment being recommended was safe. Instead of helping, I believe it caused harm. When I returned to discuss what had happened and to seek answers, I was met with what I perceived as defensiveness rather than compassion or a willingness to investigate my concerns. Instead of listening carefully and addressing my questions, I felt dismissed. During

Came to the emergency with a kitten that I rescued from a colony. Kitty had upper respiratory infection and had been already treated with ophthalmic antibiotics but that day she stopped eating and drinking and was wobbly. Immediately after reception she was taken in the back for monitoring. I thought she is in good hands and they know what they are doing. Then long hours followed with zero communication what was happening in the back. Several times I approached the receptionist to ask just to be told they will check, but more hours followed without any update. Eventually I was called and placed in an exam room and told the doctor will come. No doctor in the next hours and I was sitting there like being incarcerated. Finally the doctor showed up and apologized for the wait, but said it was a good thing, because Kitty was doing better compared to their other patients. We agreed on a plan and some meds were finally given. Meanwhile I still have not seen Kitty for all these hours. Discharge instructions were given and just when I expected to take her home, the doctor wanted to talk to me. Kitty was dying and taking her final breath. I was shocked and asked why nothing was

My cat had a really big accident that required 6 weeks of follow-up and the entire team at PETS Referral Center have been excellent every step of the way. From the initial emergency visit, to the last-minute appointments, all the way through the routine check-ups — I felt really supported throughout the process and it really showed in the way my cat was able to recover really well. They were transparent about costs, different scenarios, at-home care options and were so patient with me and my millions of questions during this time. I am really grateful for the entire team here for taking care of my cat, it truly made a traumatic experience more manageable all thanks to their help, expertise, patience and care.

Yesterday evening I came home to an extremely lethargic pet bunny. Which was a complete 180 from the energetic/binky/content bunny I had left in the morning. I immediately panicked and started googling emergency vets near me. Another clinic I called actually referred me to this clinic as they had exotic pet doctors on staff. Alex picked up the phone and was extremely calming/reassuring and told me to bring in my pet asap, so we did just that. Upon arrival they wasted absolutely no time in bringing him back and checking vitals and working to stabilize him. I was able to fill out my onboarding paperwork with a bit of reassurance as I knew that my pet was already being addressed. I was in an extremely emotional state and the front end staff (especially Alex) were extremely caring and helpful. After about an hour we got to go back to meet with the doctor who was taking care of our boy to understand what was happening and what treatment plan options were available for us. Dr Stephanie Burr was very caring, professional and real about what our bunny needed from us. Then a nurse, Rachel, came in who was absolutely lovely and broke down what every mark on his treatment plan was and the
