About Walter's World of Pets

Located at 3020 34th St, Lubbock, TX 79410, Walter's World of Pets operates as a pet store serving Lubbock in Texas. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as pet store, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

Pet stores sell the food, treats, toys, beds, crates, leashes and grooming tools that keep a coat in good shape between appointments: slicker brushes, combs, de-shedding tools, nail clippers, shampoos and conditioners. Independent pet shops often carry raw and freeze-dried food and local brands, and many run a grooming salon or a self-service wash in the back; dog bakeries sell fresh treats and birthday cakes; aquarium and exotic pet stores serve fish, birds and reptiles; and feed stores sell bulk food, bedding and supplies for farm animals and horses.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–6:30 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (806) 741-0123. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, waltersworld.net.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 901 reviews, which is a strong result for a pet store in Lubbock and suggests consistent service.

Lubbock is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Lubbock follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

This is a very good local store to have, especially as someone who owns exotics and needs supplies. However, I do have some concerns about the treatment of some of their animals. They seem to be very adept at taking care of reptiles and have beautiful enclosures for most of them, but some of their small mammals and birds are extremely neglected. A lot of these animals are overpriced to some degree, meaning they are likely to spend a large part of their lives in the store. Improper enclosures that are meant to be temporary end up being used for far longer, which can cause a lot of stress, especially for more energetic animals. They've had the baby coatis in particular for a few months now and I haven't seen any of them be sold. These are arboreal animals but are kept in a small enclosure with bedding and not nearly as much enrichment as they need. I know this is hard to do, especially since it is a local store with limited space, but something about it rubs me the wrong way. Their means of getting baby prairie dogs are sketchy from what I've heard, and they have two in the back that they are keeping permanently in a tank with no enrichment that could definitely be bigger. I don't kn

So we got a budgie from there it was in a small cage with 10 others the cage was dirty the water was very dirty and the budgies were going after a couple other birds the guy did not know what he was talking about he told me the bird was a girl but it’s a male. I have 6 other budgies and I have never seen such a nasty cage. The guy put the bird in an already used cricket box and then taped it shut. Very unprofessional. And my new budgie is very under weight its keel is so pointy he acts like and looks like he hasn’t been fed in a week. Im having to treat the bird he ways 27 grams and he should weigh 30-34 grams! Thats awful I can’t believe this place.

I love the wild prairie dogs where I live in North Lubbock. Today I was outside and I saw a white pickup with the words "Lubbock Prairie Dog Department" logo on the side of the door. I saw a man laying down flat, he appeared dead or injured. I went over to see if he needed help. He jumped up and yelled out to me. I couldn't hear him so he drove over to me. The white pickup truck had a water tank in back with a hose. He had a cage in the front seat. I thought he was poisoning them. He stated that he was flushing them out to catch the babies. I told him that the babies need their mother. He said "not anymore" He said that he sells them to Walter's world of Pets.I told him Walter's was the worse. I told him that this was illegal and asked for his name but he refused to give it. I went back to get my cell phone to get pictures but he took off before I could get back. I called animal services, texas parks and wildlife rangers, as well as the police to make a report. I also called Walter's and asked where they buy their prairie dogs and the guy on the phone answered trappers. When I went on my speel, a lady grabbed the phone out of his hand and stated "we buy them from a mati

We have many prairie dogs and our oldest is 10 years old. Purchased many from other places. Janda,s exotic, polly pets just to name a few reputable places. Never have we been requir3d to buy extra materials like what this place is demanding if you plan to buy a prairie dog from them. For 1. The babies are wild harvested from land owners and are probably 99% free to the shop. I had intentions of buying 4 as of today. But I will make the drive down to janda,s exotic pets where they are way more expensive but she knows me and I don't have to buy this extra stuff just for her to make a profit. This wants place is all about making a profit off the animals and plus demanding you buy mundane supplies on top of it

Bought three pet rats from here a three days ago. They didn't have enough male rats in the display, and the employee brought another rat from what looked like a row of storage shelves. It didn't click at the time, but as a longtime snake owner, these shelves were obviously for feeder rats (they are bred in quantity over quality and their health is not a priority, compared to how pet rats are supposed to be taken care of. They also mentioned their ages ranged from 2 to 4 months old). The last rat mentioned died yesterday, very abruptly and semi-violently from what I belive to ne organ failure and blood in his feces, and despite givin all three rats equal amounts of attention, proper food, and free roam time, he was still quite aggressive. The remaining two rats have been docile and energetic, but have been no stop itching (discovered mites on them) and have been scratching themselves bloody, and non-stop sneezing (which we assumed would calm down a day or so after leaving the store), and having wet diarhea (similar to the passed rat. We've also been using oxbow food the vet recommended, and twice daily feeding as instructed.). At this point we've also been noticing labored breathing
