Tuscaloosa is in Alabama, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Tuscaloosa follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Fostering a dog from this shelter has been a nightmare. He had horrible kennel cough so they handed me a bag of pills and told me good luck. They don’t answer the phones. They don’t call you to set up vaccinations like they say they will and they leave fosters with no help. My foster dog has been in my care for almost 3 months now and this poorly managed circus still hasn’t figured out how to make a phone call to get my dog vaccinated. They keep acting like the renovations are the cause for negligence but quite frankly they’ve always been negligent. Adopt these poor dogs so they don’t have to remain under the care of a bunch of clowns who let their dogs sleep in feces and catch kennel cough.

I went to see the dogs and make a food donation. It smelled so bad that it made me sick. They mop with ammonia around the cages but inside the cages it was filthy! I visited the shelter during a weekday too. I would say 75% of the cages had piles of dog feces with some dogs laying in it. It was awful. Something needs to be done.

Got this sweet rambunctious guy a few weeks ago and am so in love! While most of the staff was friendly enough, I took issue with, not receiving a call about my kitten being ready for pick up, until right before closure, when he had been ready most of the day. That lapse in organization was the one dark spot in the process.

Someone dumped a cute puppy at my house. Went to 25 different neighbors in my area and no one claimed him or wanted him. I put adds on Facebook and other sites and still no one wanted him. Called the animal shelter and was told they aren’t accepting any strays. Then I was directed to contact the Sheriffs department since I live outside city limits so they can come get the dog in a week or possibly longer. They will accept strays from the Sheriff’s department and not anyone else. What kind of animal shelter is this? I’m trying to do the correct thing and leave this puppy at a place that would hopefully adopt him out. I can see why someone dumped him at my house. You all don’t leave any other choice!

I am not one to write a bad review, but this shelter deserves it. This shelter screwed us out of our dog!!! A dog we paid money for to put on hold and had come in and spoken to the staff about at least 5 times. If you want to adopt an animal this shelter does not want to do anything to make this process easier. We put a dog on early bird hold and weren't told when her stray hold ended or when early bird ended, just to wait for their phone call. We assumed they would in fact call any of the 2 numbers we gave them or 2 emails, they do not. We emailed them asking when we would be able to pick up the dog they had told us was ours. To which they responded by telling us they had already gotten her adopted that morning and they were "sorry for any miscommunication". Sorry isn't enough, our whole family including two children under 10 thought this was our dog and had already started to love her before even having her. We spent $300 on supplies for her, that is now all pointless. We even went into the shelter to talk about what happened and they just told us that we took the wrong steps. "Calls aren't part of the process", you sure called us a whole bunch to confirm about the money we spent
