In Austin, look for trainers who use reward-based methods and hold a certification such as CPDT-KA, and ask what a course includes and how many dogs are in a class. Many groomers suggest getting puppies used to brushing, nail trims and having their paws handled early. Dog parks across Texas usually require current vaccinations and a license tag, and some need a membership or key fob. Check the listing for hours, address and Google rating.

Austin is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. Getting around Austin is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Texas's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I loved working with Jo and so did my dog. He learned all the things and even though I don't practice them with him all the time as soon as I put his leash and his vest on, he goes right into work mode and he remembers everything. It's a wonderful experience and I fully trust Jo so much. It was great getting to know her and her family and I trust her 100% with my dog. And he is my boy. She really put in a lot of work, especially including the effort to send me videos all the time showing me what was going on with him and his progress. If you work with Jo, you will know your dog is in good hands and is learning as much as possible. And because she's a great teacher, you will learn easily too!

Jo was so amazing over the 6 week course we did with her! She was able to help us learn how to keep our energetic pup’s attention on us while out and also learning a lot of tools to help us help him through his reactive tendencies. Jo was great at telling us what we were doing right, and also what we needed to work on in such a clear and understandable way. I also loved that all of our sessions were in a variety of public places so we could see the different challenges we would encounter in different environments. I would 100% recommend her to anyone!

Jo is amazing! I so appreciate her skillset and the way she breaks down tasks for my dog (and me). Riley stayed with her for 2wks and now we do weekly 1hr trainings. It's so fun to see how much my dog has learned in just a two months! I've learned a lot too. Jo has been super helpful with my questions. I feel like I can be a better owner and guide for my dog as a result of working with Jo. Thank you so much!!!

Jo changed our lives for the better! Our pitty was the sweetest boy but loved to jump up on people when he was excited, not only did she get him to stop in just 1 week but also taught him SOOO many other things that made our life not only easier but helped us enjoy our big boy even more. He LOVES Jo so much and has really enjoyed having new things to learn.

My dog reactive pitbull has already shown massive improvement in just the first 9 sessions with Jo. I had tried dog training before but I still didn’t feel I had a handle on his behavior and with that brought anxiety in which Django picked up on. As soon as Jo comes around Django knows it’s go time. She makes me feel confident that I can finally improve Django’s and my quality of life together! We are starting to introduce him and my other dog, Lila, to co-exist again in the home and I am so excited to see the strides he takes. Highly recommend Jo of Pup Academy!
