Pet stores sell the food, treats, toys, beds, crates, leashes and grooming tools that keep a coat in good shape between appointments: slicker brushes, combs, de-shedding tools, nail clippers, shampoos and conditioners. Independent pet shops often carry raw and freeze-dried food and local brands, and many run a grooming salon or a self-service wash in the back; dog bakeries sell fresh treats and birthday cakes; aquarium and exotic pet stores serve fish, birds and reptiles; and feed stores sell bulk food, bedding and supplies for farm animals and horses.

Gainesville is in Florida, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Gainesville is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Florida's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Today, I visited the store to check out their Pac-Man frogs displayed in the front. I was particularly interested in buying one in its cage, along with all its necessary supplies. As I was examining the frog, a young, rude, and short woman approached me and asked me not to jostle it. She claimed that it would stress the frog out. It was amusing because I’ve had amphibians all my life and am quite the collector. I had been admiring the frog’s unique striations and eye color, so I had raised the frog’s cage to a high eye level to get a better look. The employee’s behavior was incredibly rude and seemed unrelated to my interest in the amphibian. I decided against purchasing the frog due to her unpleasant attitude. I was sure that the frog was worth the $50 price tag, and its setup was quite minimal Unfortunately, the frog was exactly what I was looking for, but I had no interest in purchasing it after the employee pulled it from my hands and placed it back on the counter. These are supposed to be “desk pets,” after all. I did appreciate the fact that the pet store provided smaller containers for the frogs, which allowed me to closely examine them before making a purchase.

What's not to like. Babaa had never been around a puppy. She grew up with dogs. Had to make it clear we were not bringing one home :( Anyhow it was great lots & lots of dogs, puppies & cats. Yes I sawseveral I wanted! This place has everything for someone who wants to be a pet owner. It's very large. Grooming, training classes, fish, just everything. Actually I got my 1st dog from here over 20 yrs ago. Adopt a shelter dog or cat. They know... thanks PetSmart.

The people who work here are nice but there is a BIG problem with their tanks they’re FULL of ICH, it’s awful to see.. I’ve gone twice my second batch of fish is definitely doing way better still had a few die.. praying the rest don’t. They replaced the fish that died (which is the new batch) which I’m happy they do but replacing the dead fish with more sick fish isn’t very good. I’m mostly got the ich under control took 4-5 days. I just don’t understand how the tanks look horrendous when they claim to put meds in the tanks.

This store is the only pet store I know of in Gainesville. It has a pet hospital and grooming business located within. People seem to be happy using those services. The store is clean and handicap accessible. The aisles are especially wide. The fish zone always is good and kid friendly and makes them happy to come. They have pet and cat adoption departments too. The floors are clean. There are rodent, birds and lizards is cases you can pick from to buy.
