So this used to be our store. Today I visited this location specifically because the staff was empathetic, kind, and nice people overall. Every time I entered I would spend around $100+. I started rehabilitating betta fish as a direct result of the company policy that they are unable to treat the sick bettas. I have been told by multiple associates of this location, and other locations (ames and ankeny) that this is the policy and they will sometimes try to help the sick or near dead fish by letting people take them free of charge. I specifically started rescue as a result of this corporate policy. I had an open tank, so when I went in to get food for my other exotics and fish, i picked up the sickest betta they had from sick bay. Everything was fine until the manager decided to come up at checkout. This manager was the short, brunette, heavy set, girl with glasses. Instantly they were in a bad mood. Picked up the fish and roughly shook the poor thing around in it to "get a look at it" she then said she refused to let us take the fish. She said she refused to sell the sick fish, and that it was untrue and they actually DID treat sick fish. (Despite the opposite being told by

Manager lost long time loyal customers today. We buy $100-$300 worth of things every time we go to this store. We loved it. We run a betta rehab, taking sickbay bettas that CANNOT be sold and nursing them to health. Everyone we’ve worked with here has been so helpful and kind, until today. The manager came out to dispute a medical rehab, and refused to let us take a betta on death’s door. She said she was not allowed to sell it to us, until we said we would buy it for full price. A sick, dying betta is what we were sold, her tune changed over $8 out of our $100 purchase. She also handled the betta cup so roughly it turned my stomach, while -lying- about policy and treatment to our faces and in front of other customers. Nothing but glowing reviews for the staff, which me and my partner went to this location SPECIFICALLY because of their wonderful work and care towards the animals. I want to emphasize how helpful and kind the staff are; had this review been before today it would be 5 stars. We will never shop here again. I hope the $8 was worth your cruelty.

Brought our 3 month of puppy in for a grooming. her first hair cut ever. So obviously a new experience with a puppy. With other dogs barking. She was obviously behaving like a 3 month old puppy and they refused to give her a haircut. “She’s a terrible puppy and needs a lot of work” quote the employee. Still charged us 40$ for a bath. Just go anywhere else. They’re inept.

I had a very disappointing experience. I called and made my dog's grooming appointment five days in advance with an employee over the phone. At no point during that call was I told that I would need to provide updated vaccination records. After driving 30 minutes to my appointment, I was asked if I had brought my dog's vaccine records. When I said no because I hadn't been told they were needed, I was informed that they had tried calling me. The call came in as I was literally walking into the appointment, leaving me no opportunity to do anything about it. When I explained that this could have easily been avoided if I had been told when I scheduled the appointment, I was given conflicting explanations. First I was told they couldn't check appointments while grooming another dog, then I was told it looked like I had booked online. I clarified that I had actually called five days earlier, which would have given me plenty of time to get the records from my veterinarian if anyone had simply mentioned it. This entire situation was the result of poor communication, not a lack of preparation on my part. A simple reminder when the appointment was scheduled would have saved me a wasted t

I was recently sold a pair of expensive fish that were in poor health and had ick by a store manager with blonde hair, who behaved unprofessionally. Despite presenting video evidence of the issue, the manager denied responsibility and became aggressive. Unfortunately, it appears that selling fish in poor condition is acceptable, and the staff lack knowledge. Furthermore, the employees were dismissive and rude, failing to provide adequate assistance. I was informed that there would be a wait due to understaffing, I expressed my frustration, stating that I had other commitments and couldn't wait, as it's unreasonable for customers to bear the consequences of staffing shortages. Very disturbed by my experience with children who run a corporate business selling living creatures.
