I usually steer clear of big-box pet stores, expecting high prices, uninformed staff, and unhealthy animals. The Petco in Troy completely changed my mind. I had recently bought a baby rat at a reptile show and only learned afterward that rats should be kept in pairs or groups so they don’t get lonely or depressed. Feeling guilty for not knowing better—and sorry for my new little guy, I stopped in for bedding and somehow walked out with two more baby rats. Unfortunately, when I brought them home and introduced them to my original rat, Phil, he immediately rejected them and acted like an angry HOA president. No welcoming committee, no hospitality—just instant hostility. After a few more days of trying to get Phil to warm up to them, as hard as it was, I knew I had to return the two sweet babies. What impressed me most was how the store handled it. The manager was incredibly kind and understanding—not only allowing me to return the rats, but also taking back the used beds I had purchased, even though they had already been chewed up and thoroughly christened. That level of customer service, compassion, and flexibility is rare. My entire experience at the Petco was far better than I ev

Very nice staff, just want to start out by saying that. Unfortunately I'll need to stop coming here as they are pulling back their stocking of wellness cat food, especially the 12.5oz cans. Very disappointed by this change and I'll no longer be able to shop here because of it despite this being the most convenient pet store. Gonna have to start going to PetSmart :(

Update: After the owner’s response asking me to contact the store, I did call and was told the store manager was unavailable. The associate on duty said I would receive a follow-up call the next day, but I never heard back. I appreciate the response, but the lack of follow-through has been disappointing. Clear communication and accountability would have gone a long way in resolving this. My original review: I called to make a 2:30 appointment for a nail trim for my dog at the Petco in Troy. When I arrived, I asked the groomer, Sasha, if she could shave out his paw pads. She said yes, took my dog back, and handed me the receipt to pay. When I brought the receipt to the checkout counter, I noticed I was being charged for a nail trim and a “face trim.” The cashier even told me to go back and ask her why that was added. When I asked, she said they don’t have a SKU for paw pad trims and that I needed to pay for it. I explained I’ve never been charged separately before and that paw pad trimming has always been included with a nail trim service. She argued with me about it, so I just paid. When I picked my dog up, his paws looked terrible. The fur was still sticking out on the top. I a

Michelle from the Warren location is the best. She went above and beyond to answer all of my questions, pick out the items I needed and educate me on taking care of a hampster correctly. She really needs a raise or promotion their aren't alot of businesses that have employees so willing to help like her.

This Petco does not rotate their products to ensure freshness. Bought 3 bags of Merrick Fresh Kisses and all 3 expired a year ago or more. Do not show here unless you check freshness dates. Thankfully my dog did not eat a bone from these bags but it wasn't until she rejected her favorite treat that we realized why. Note: Filed complaint to Merrick and they have not replied.
