Dr Adesso is incredible, so good with pets, smart, and very kind. She explains things in a way that is easy to understand but without missing any important details. She even gave me a quick comparative anatomy lesson which I appreciated. I know she gives my pet excellent care. Patrick, her ?tech, did a wonderful job too and was super kind and sweet to my pet. I appreciate this office, their efficiency, and their availability- Roos/Russ? got me in for a visit efficiently and was very helpful. Great office, great staff.

Very attentive and informative staff. They handled my small conure Luci—who was brought in for listlessness and mold exposure—with great affection and care. We were seen promptly, and we left with appropriate guidance on a course of action. The tech that helped with Luci's appointment was extremely informative and well-versed in avian husbandry. Other clinics have allowed techs with little to no avian experience handle Luci, which always makes me nervous. Very reasonable prices for labs/testing, though baseline care (physical exam and a nail trim this time) is a tad more expensive ($15-20 more) than other places we have been. I consider this worth it for the fair prices on labs/testing, which is where other clinics have tried to fleece me. We were also given plenty of the necessary accoutrement (syringes, uptake needles, etc.) for Luci's treatment plan, free of charge. All in all, I highly recommend the Pender Fairfax location, especially for avian and exotic care. They even treat fish!

We’ve had fantastic care for our cats over the 20+ years for our cats. Hands down, the veterinarians are excellent and very advanced in their medical treatments and compassionate and excellent in their field. . Our cats were spayed and the surgery went well. One of our cats, Silky, shockingly swallowed a shoe string (?!) that became stuck in her intestines. She was close to dying. The surgery went well and our cat Silky came through and healed with flying colors. Of all things she was purring the day after surgery and moving about. As to the veterinarians…they are extremely skilled, and they show a genuine sense of care for their patients and families. The support staff are welcoming and helpful. I cannot recommend enough.

It was our first time coming here on an emergency for our guinea pig Dennis on 4/15/26. We went to emergency care around 5:45pm. Before I was done with the simple 3 pages of paperwork there was already a tech coming to talk to my wife about Dennis and taking him back to the Doctor. The front counter was amazing. Our daughter is high energy when she’s stressed(she was so concerned about our little Dennis) and she will talk your ear off if you let her. The ladies at the counter were able to multi task and talk to our little Aurora. The Dr was amazing, her explanation was impeccable and I’ve never seen such amazing bed side manner from a vets office in my 38 years in this world. Even the interactions with the staff and the puppies that came in were top notch. We have a follow up appointment this Wednesday and I can’t wait to go back and see them. They explained everything immaculately when it came to medication and diagnostics. I could truly feel every animal and their family who walks in that door is cared about and not just another number. Thank you all for such an amazing experience and getting our Dennis onthe road to recovery.

My budgie doesn't have a routine vet and I've only taken him to an urgent care once and it was a terrible experience (a facility in Richmond). We've since moved and when we picked a local vet for routine care they recommended Pender for emergencies when they're closed. Today, with a very sick budgie, we called another emergency facility that was half the distance and they do not see birds, but recommended Pender. That was 2 recommendations, so we knew that's where we should go. The facility was a little confusing going inside on a Sunday, when the general building is closed. But, we managed to finally get up to what they called the 2nd floor for avian care. Stairs and elevator were available. Small waiting room for the exotics dept. Restrooms down the hallway, not inside the waiting room. The staff was efficient, well prepared, kind, and concerned. We did end up being there for a few hours, but we overheard the receptionist on the phone telling someone they were really busy, and although animals are seen immediately for an assessment, the owners will be sitting for awhile. Great knowing the animals aren't waiting long for an initial assessment. We felt complete confidence in Dr
