Pet groomers bathe, brush, trim and style dogs and cats, and most also clip nails, clean ears and express anal glands. A full groom usually includes a bath, blow-dry, haircut and tidy-up; a bath-and-brush package skips the haircut and suits short-coated breeds. Salon groomers work from a shop with tubs and drying stations, mobile groomers bring a fitted van to your driveway, which is easier on anxious, elderly or reactive pets, and self-service dog washes rent a raised tub, shampoo and dryer by the session. Cat groomers handle lion cuts and matted coats with calmer, quieter setups, and many salons offer add-ons such as teeth brushing, de-shedding treatments, blueberry facials and paw balm.

I've been going to Merrifield Academy for many years probably at least 15 years to have my dogs groomed and I always liked it very much until my most recent experience a couple of days ago. When I went I was told first that my pet was matted and they would have to shave him and I contested this saying that he wasn't matted and they had a second instructor to check him and we would go by what the second instructor said so the second instructor checked him thoroughly and said no he was not mad and they could give him the Schnauzer cut . Well when I arrived back I was shocked to find that they actually shaved him and this was totally unacceptable to me because I have been diligent by keeping him unmatted and brushing him daily because I wanted to maintain the Schnauzer cut . Now the last time I was there they also were able to maintain the Schnauzer cut however the time before that he was matted and I had agreed to allow them to buzz cut him which was fine and i wished I told them that I wanted to speak to the manager when I picked him up and found that he they trip they gave him the buzz cut despite saying that he was not matted. I called the next day and the manager returned my call

(Translated by Google) ENGLISH: Training at this academy was one of the best decisions I've made in my career. The level of education is high, with a strong practical and truly professional approach. It allowed me to grow as a groomer and gain knowledge in canine dental care that I now apply with confidence, sound judgment, and responsibility. Highly recommended for those who want to learn properly from the start and build a solid foundation in this profession. 🐩✂️🦷 SPANISH: Training at this academy was one of the best decisions I've made in my career. Perfect choice if you don’t want to put dog under anesthesia to clean teeth. Dog has to be well behaved and cooperative. It was a very organized process from check in to pick up. They even sent before and after pics. The price was the best part. A great service to the community. Keep up the great work!

I’m writing this still shaken and honestly in tears. I brought my three small dogs—my two Shih Tzus and my tiny 4-lb, 3-year-old Maltese, Luna—for grooming. What should have been a normal pickup turned into one of the scariest moments I’ve ever had as a pet parent. When I arrived to pick them up, they handed me a dog that looked like Luna… but it wasn’t her. It took me a second to realize, and in that moment my heart dropped. At the same time, another person was literally about to walk out the door with MY dog. My baby. If I had arrived even one minute later, Luna would have been gone. I cannot even describe the panic and fear I felt in that moment. What made it worse was the way it was handled. The man at reception, with gray hair, was incredibly rude and dismissive. Instead of apologizing or trying to understand how such a serious mistake happened, he said, “each person should recognize their own dog.” No concern. No accountability. No empathy. As if this was nothing. But this is NOT nothing. This is someone’s family. This is a life that could have been lost because of carelessness.

I know this is a grooming academy so I know it's students learning but I've had 2 bad incidents there. One time my doxie home and later developed an all over rash I needed to treat with antibiotics from my vet. They denies accountability and refused to share their list of products with me. Regardless, I had been going there to over a year prior, once a month, so once he healed I tried again. This time they traumatized my larger dog and now she is terrified of the groomers, scissors, the sound of of an electric buzzer, and she use to not be scared. I brought her once a month for over a year and everything was fine. But after my doxie got a rash, I went out of the country, and wasn't able to get my bigger dog to the grooms for all of 3 months. And these people shamed me for not being able to come as often and traumatized my dog. My big dog would just look at the guy in charge and pee all over herself. I know they are students learning to groom- but they also need to learn how to actually care for your dog there once you drop them off. Its not just a breed you need to learn to groom but a precious soul that is being left in your care. Im not a fan of the fact that they Kennel the do
