About Hair of the Dog
Located at 1012 E Santa Fe St, Olathe, KS 66061, Hair of the Dog operates as a pet groomer serving Olathe in Kansas. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
Pet groomers bathe, brush, trim and style dogs and cats, and most also clip nails, clean ears and express anal glands. A full groom usually includes a bath, blow-dry, haircut and tidy-up; a bath-and-brush package skips the haircut and suits short-coated breeds. Salon groomers work from a shop with tubs and drying stations, mobile groomers bring a fitted van to your driveway, which is easier on anxious, elderly or reactive pets, and self-service dog washes rent a raised tub, shampoo and dryer by the session. Cat groomers handle lion cuts and matted coats with calmer, quieter setups, and many salons offer add-ons such as teeth brushing, de-shedding treatments, blueberry facials and paw balm.
Hours are published for 5 days a week. On most of those days it is open 8 am–3 pm. It is closed on Monday, Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. Sandra is an expert, matching the perfect dog to their new family. We are so grateful she guided us to the dog that fits our lifestyle and the need of the dog best. We just love our new addition, Bodhi to our family.🐾🐕❤️

I had been taking my two golden doodles here for over a year. Brandy was always amazing with them and we never had an issue. The last time I had them groomed, the owner proceeds to tell me at pickup that it’s going to cost twice as much for one dog because his coat was matted. I had spent the entire night before brushing him out and while he did need a good grooming, he was definitely not matted. He was then shaved. Then she looks at my second dog and says that his coat is much better and it will be normal price. When I came to pick him up, she charged me twice as much and I asked if his coat was really bad and she said no, it was because of his “size and attitude”. Not to mention I’ve never had a problem with any other groomer and his “attitude” Then she proceeds to tell me that she isn’t able to groom dogs of their size anymore and slips me the name of another groomer who can “muscle them” when need be. Needless to say, we have never been back and DO NOT recommend this place to anyone who loves their sweet pets.

Only place that can trim my pups nails and he doesn't go crazy or have to be knocked out. And for $5!!! Can't beat that. Late update: Took my pup back to get his nails trimmed early this summer. The normal woman who always did his nails wasn't in, but I figured this woman would be OK. Boy was I wrong. My guy doesn't like his front paws touched so he pulls them back a lot, so it can be challenging. The previous woman knew this and was gentle and was able to get it done with no issues. I don't even have to be back there most times for her to do it. The woman who did it this time, she was overly aggressive, my guy kept trying to step off the table because of this. It took all my might to keep him on the table. And this woman cuts the quick on one of his nails on one of his back paws, the paws that he doesn't even move. And she just blew it off like it was no big deal. We went back a few months later hoping our regular woman was in. When we got inside and I saw that she wasn't, we turned around and left. Used to love this place, but I feel like it's going down hill and I'm not putting my buddy through that. I'll find another place.

We did not have a good first experience. I made an appointment for a quick puppy grooming for our 12 week old to get him used to it. (Recommendation of our vet) They claimed he was matted (vet had told us he wasn’t and could be combed out) and then shaved him completely and charged us $47. He is not even three pounds. We’ve been told by other groomers that his fur will never grow back the same.

I brought my dogs in for nail trims and the lady was very nice to them and did the trim on the spot. I brought one in for a groom and he was looking great when I picked him up. The prices are very reasonable and they do a fantastic job. If you are looking for a high class spa for your dog...go elsewhere. But if you are looking for great results from friendly people, this is the place...and did I mention very reasonable prices!
