About Citizen Canine

Citizen Canine is a pet groomer in Chicago, Illinois. It is listed at 2205 N Southport Ave, Chicago, IL 60614, which places it among the local businesses of Chicago that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Google also lists it under bed & breakfast, dog day care center, dog trainer, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

Pet groomers bathe, brush, trim and style dogs and cats, and most also clip nails, clean ears and express anal glands. A full groom usually includes a bath, blow-dry, haircut and tidy-up; a bath-and-brush package skips the haircut and suits short-coated breeds. Salon groomers work from a shop with tubs and drying stations, mobile groomers bring a fitted van to your driveway, which is easier on anxious, elderly or reactive pets, and self-service dog washes rent a raised tub, shampoo and dryer by the session. Cat groomers handle lion cuts and matted coats with calmer, quieter setups, and many salons offer add-ons such as teeth brushing, de-shedding treatments, blueberry facials and paw balm.

Our dog was bit by another dog at this daycare and the staff didn’t even realize it had happened. When I picked her up, she refused to walk once we got outside. She layed down on the sidewalk and I immediately noticed her bleeding. I went back inside to ask what happened, but the staff had no explanation and were unaware she had been injured. I then took her straight to the vet where they confirmed she had a dog bite based on the puncture wound and bruising. We understand that dogs can be unpredictable and incidents happen. What concerns us most is that no one noticed our dog had been bitten. That raises serious questions about the level of supervision. If the bite wasn't witnessed, how long were the dogs unsupervised? Our dog is very vocal, yet no one heard or responded. We don't know how many hours she was bleeding and in pain before we arrived, and it's upsetting her injury went unnoticed. To the owner’s credit, she did pay our vet bill, which we appreciate. However, they were unable to identify which dog bit her or explain with certainty how the injury occurred. Because of that, we don't feel comfortable bringing her back.

They are the best- care for my dog so well and I feel so safe leaving her with them. Highly recommend for daycare and boarding.

Citizen Canine is such a great place! Our energetic lovable goofball Lab is so happy here. He goes to daycare a few times a week, and occasionally gets a bath/cleanup from Anna here as well. Everyone is friendly, the place is clean, and we and our dog are very happy customers! Highly recommend.

I've used the daycare, boarding, and grooming services at Citizen Canine and I feel so comfortable leaving my pup in their hands! She is truly excited to run in the doors every morning. Jolie is so great and you can tell the staff really cares about the pups. Great price compared to other daycare services in the city as well. Nova says thank you!

I don't often write reviews unless I'm either incredibly impressed or really disappointed. I felt like I had to post something after my dog's grooming experience. Our regular groomer was booked for the next two weeks, so I took our Wheaton Terrier to Citizen Canine for the first time. We asked to have her trimmed with a more rounded 'puppy cut' rather than the more traditional Wheaton Terrier box cut. The results weren't good. The groomer shaved her snout (including her whiskers!), the majority of her coat is uneven, and for some reason, she's been limping since we brought her home yesterday afternoon. There are two photos attached to show what our dog normally looks like and the results from this job.The other odd thing is that there was a problem with the bathtub, so the process took 6 hours instead of 2.5 hours. Perhaps CC does a wonderful job grooming other breeds, but I wouldn't recommend them for Wheaton Terriers. We won't be back.
