Pet stores sell the food, treats, toys, beds, crates, leashes and grooming tools that keep a coat in good shape between appointments: slicker brushes, combs, de-shedding tools, nail clippers, shampoos and conditioners. Independent pet shops often carry raw and freeze-dried food and local brands, and many run a grooming salon or a self-service wash in the back; dog bakeries sell fresh treats and birthday cakes; aquarium and exotic pet stores serve fish, birds and reptiles; and feed stores sell bulk food, bedding and supplies for farm animals and horses.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 9 am–6:30 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Bone-A-Patreat at (515) 279-2544; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is boneapatreat.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.7 out of 5 from 270 reviews, which is a strong result for a pet store in Des Moines and suggests consistent service.

Des Moines is in Iowa, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Des Moines follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.
