Vets and pet-health businesses handle what a groomer cannot. General veterinarians and animal hospitals do checkups, vaccinations, dental cleanings, spaying and neutering and sick visits; emergency and 24-hour vets treat injuries and sudden illness at night and on weekends; mobile vets come to the house; rehab centers offer physical therapy, hydrotherapy and acupuncture; and pet pharmacies fill prescriptions and sell prescription diets. Groomers often spot skin problems, ear infections, lumps or overgrown nails first and will suggest a vet visit.
The business lists hours on 5 days of the week. Typical hours are 7:30 am–5 pm. It is closed on Saturday, Sunday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. To say that Black Dog Veterinary Services exceeded my expectations would be an understatement. I have never experienced the level of quality and compassion that I have at Black Dog Veterinary Services. I have a dog and a cat and I went there because I'm moving abroad and Dr. Jordan Robins is an expert in doing international health certificates. He spent an hour with us -- I have NEVER had a veterinarian dedicate so much time to us. He put together a plan for each of them to get them prepared. He also explained in detail what the process is, the steps required, and what to expect. Among the steps: My dog needed a new microchip that's compatible with those in Europe and my cat needed a rabies shot since hers expires the day we leave -- and it had to be done in a certain order with other things, which Dr. Robins knew. Thanks to Dr. Robins, my dog and cat, who are 12, will be strong and stable when we leave. While previous doctors had said their teeth had tartar, Dr. Robins did extensive examinations and discovered that they had much more than just tartar. My dog even needed to go to a veterinary endodontist. In addition to living in pain, these issues can affect their heart. Dr. Robin

Dr. Laurie, Anita and the whole team at Black Dog are awesome. They've been taking care of Keke for over 12 years. Highly recommended.

I was so happy to be able to get seen by Dr. Keri Swenson who happened to be filling in! We went over the pros and cons of Heartworm testing and prevention vs. actually getting the illness and she convinced me to go ahead with it, despite the cost of the meds. Thanks Dr. Keri!

While traveling across country, our dog was experiencing ear problems. We are able to be seen quickly by a doctor who treated him professionally and kindly (as did all of the staff). The expense was totally in line with the treatment and reasonable. Thanks to ALL the staff that helped get our dog treated and on the way to feeling better!

We have stopped taking our dog to Black Dog as they made us feel like our hyper dog was naughty though we’ve clearly trained her and she simply loves humans. Other vets we’ve taken her to since (emergency vet and a vet out of state) loved her energy and never made us feel bad. Additionally, we asked them to fill her heart guard prescription multiple times and they simply forgot to do it & forgot to mention they no longer fill Chewy prescriptions any longer… so we were waiting for over a month thinking her prescription had been filled and then it never showed up.
