Aurora is in Illinois, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Aurora follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. My family and I went in today looking to adopt a dog in need of a home. As soon as we walked in the lady at the front desk was giving snarky comments, at first I didn’t give it a thought because we were all excited. As we where looking at the dogs that were available we began talking in Spanish which obviously made her feel a certain way because she later said, are you guys just wasting my time or are you actually looking to adopt, in which I responded yes we are looking to adopt. She then said ohh you lost me when you started talking in Spanish. Which that conversation was between my family and not directed towards her at all. At the end I decided that the attitude and disrespect was not worth our time as much as we wanted to give a dog a loving home. That attitude was something not pleasant to work with.

On Thursday 1/8/2026 we saved a raccoon that was stuck in the sewer grates, no thanks to Aurora Animal Control. We called before they closed, the person who took my call assured me that someone was on the way, mind you it pouring outside which they were well aware of. We waited in the rain for about an hour, they sent a police officer to confirm that there was indeed a raccoon stuck in the sewer grates (he was really nice), after two hours he called to check in on an ETA, they let him know that they were not coming and that they were leaving the raccoon, wasting everyone’s time. Thankfully after few more hours, some neighbors and I were able to free the raccoon. If you ever need help with an animal, its best you go elsewhere, they all sound clueless and disorganized with no care or respect for peoples time or animals lives. Just a word of advice for the person who took my call and the employee on call, if you don’t like your job, find another one. Also, we called multiple wildlife rescue facilities, they all said they could not help out because the city of Aurora ended contracts with them, indicating that they would be handling everything themselves, which obviously is not the cas

We wanted a friend for our other cat to play and feel less lonely. They had a special that month on buying a animal. The staff was friendly and informative about introducing our pets with each other. Would recommend getting a pet at the animal control instead of the big box stores to help them off the streets.(black cat in pic we adopted)

I adopted Akane (who I now named Pumpkin) a couple weeks ago. The AACC staff are very friendly and helpful. Answered all my questions that I had and helped me with finding a kitty that would suit me. I fell in love with two kitty’s, and even though I would have loved to take both, I took one home. All of their animals are well cared for and loved. I would adopt from them again!
